Dear Grumpy Realtor,
I keep seeing the abbreviation “MLS” during my search for a new home. What does that even mean? Is it something to be alarmed about?
Confused in Comal County

Dear CCC,
You’re very astute! “MLS” stands for “Majorly Leaking Sewage”. Realtors are required to put that next to home listings that have major problems with their sewage or septic systems. It’s a real stinker! But not really. “MLS” is merely an abbreviation of “Multiple Listing Service”. This is basically a computerized listing of the homes for sale in an area. Real estate agents pay a lot of money to access the MLS to narrow your search down to a particular price range, amenities or neighborhood. In my opinion, the MLS is more accurate for real estate than the common sites like Trulia & Zillow.
