Dear Grumpy Realtor,
One of these days, I figure I should grow up and buy a house. But it seems like a hassle. Is it a bad thing to rent for your whole life?
Lazy in Louisville

Dear Lazy Lou,
Well, let me put it this way: with interest rates as low as they are right now, it’s possible that you’re paying more in rent than you could be with a mortgage. Plus, that money would be going towards an investment and not just lining the landlord’s pockets. Of course, home ownership means you’re on the hook for all the maintenance, repairs, taxes and random headaches. So if you really are that lazy, maybe it’s OK to keep throwing your money away. Your call.
